Is it too early to send out my Save The Date.

Help, I’ve booked my wedding and it’s a year or more away. Should I get my Save the Dates out ASAP, so my friends and family have the date? Or is it still too early.

The general rule of thumb is 7 to 9 months before your date, tending on the 9 months for destination weddings or for couples who have many family or friends who will need to travel for the wedding. But that doesn’t mean you need to rush and get your Save the Date out like yesterday. For my couples I like to answer the following questions first.

  1. Do you have many people who will need to travel for this. Do your guests need to book hotel rooms, or plane flights?

  2. Is your wedding happening in a popular travel destination area? Such as Napa?

  3. Is your calendar full of weddings for the next year already?

If you answered yes to all of these questions, it would probably be a good idea to send your Save the Dates out earlier rather than later. I still stand by not sending out Save the Dates before the one year out mark, it can confuse your guest. If you have friends and family that you really want to communicate a date to earlier a phone call or personal chat works just great. The rule here at Posh+Folk is, it’s your wedding and if that’s what you want to do then do it! If it puts you at ease to send out that Save the Date early then do it, you should not stress if its socially appropriate to send out a Save the Date too early or not.

BUT….. In your rush to send out your Save the Date don’t forget the following details.

  1. Photo, do you want to use an engagement photo for the Save the Date, if so you might need to book that photo shoot a bit earlier.

  2. Wedding Website! I can’t stress this enough your wedding website should be on your Save the Date, in order to give your guests a place to find out more information if the need.

  3. Don’t forget to include your wedding location on the Save the Date. For those guests who will need to make overnight accommodations it is important they know where the wedding is being held!
